Mission Statement
Occupy Las Cruces
We are the 99%, a coalition of concerned citizens advocating for legal, economic, political, and environmental justice and social equality. We strive for the 100% to enjoy abundance, fair representation, harmony, and well being.
—————————————————————————————-
Allow us to introduce ourselves. We’re probably a lot like you…
WHO ARE WE?
We are your neighbors. Students. Working people. Retirees. Parents. Unemployed. And more. We are local people concerned about our community and our country, and we’re tired of politics as usual. We are the 99% who work and pay for the privilege and power enjoyed by the 1%. We don’t agree about everything, but we feel that gathering together in resistance is the first step towards creating positive change. We are committed to building consensus and finding real solutions.
WHAT DO WE WANT?
We want to listen, learn from, and speak to each other. We want to rediscover the democratic process and take responsibility for fixing the problems we’re living through. We want a political system that is not run by big money and represents the interests of the 99%. We want an economic system that is fair and just. We want accountability for all – including CEOs or politicians, and an end to dependency, corruption, and the abuses of the 1%.
WHY OCCUPY?
This is a different kind of movement. We do not have leaders or talking points. We do not have corporate donors. And we cannot buy media coverage or lobbyists. We are coming together around the country – and the world – to take back our public spaces and demand a voice in how our society is governed. We are gathering together, starting a conversation, and slowly developing a movement to solve our society’s greatest problems.
YOU are the 99%. If you would like to share in the responsibility of creating positive change, join us!
is there a way we can coordinate aggie solidarity meetings with occupy events. we would both be stronger if we could organize together!
If you would like I could add information on Aggie solidarity in the community page.
I think that would be a great idea gabriel, once the occupation begin, OCL events will start to become regular, then we can tag-team with AS and occupyNMSU to get events on a near daily basis… this is going to rock Las Cruces’ socks off…
This website is a major step towards a better future. Congrats!
You are invited on December 7, 2011 to attend a teleconference training and support session on Occupy Decision-Making Best Practices. These practices are being taught on location at many Occupy locations including Asheville, Chicago, Baltimore, Boston, Portland, and Seattle.

Hello Fellow Occupiers!
Is there an address or PO Box for Occupy Las Cruces?

Kristen, we don’t have a PO Box yet. Perhaps down the line…
We like and appreciate your website! http://occupythepress.org/
Hello Occupy Taos!
I’m a co-editor at the Occupied Wall Street Journal in NYC and part of a team that’s launching a new national+international Occupied media site, Occupy.com, for which we want and need your collaboration!
The goal is to provide a multimedia hub for Occupy-related journalism and writing, video, photography, music, art and other creative works, produced both nationally and worldwide, to give viewers a clear point of entry where they can learn about and feel inspired to participate in the movement!
We want to use a basic commons share where we can re-post any material from your site, crediting the author and your Occupy page/publication with linkbacks, and vice versa you’ll have complete access to reprint what appears on Occupy.com, with proper credits. We want to hear your stories (!) so we encourage occupiers and creators of all kinds to get in touch with ideas for pieces you’d like to submit directly! Ultimately we hope to create a democratic crowd-sourcing model where viewers “rank” the most important and interesting content which then bubbles to the top of the site, also allowing journalists/videographers/photographers to raise funds that will allow them to report specific Occupy projects… but that’s further down the road.
Right now, we’re looking to make contact with a media point person so we can start to communicate and find out about upcoming actions, stories, news and other potential projects or campaigns in your area. Content-wise the idea is to simplify, clarify and speak as directly as possible to core Occupy issues such as wealth inequality, corporate abuse and accountability, money controlling politics etc, so that a public that is only recently tuning into the discussion can feel welcomed into the national movement, explore the ideas further — and get engaged!
We look forward to hearing from you… the sooner the better, as Occupy.com is set to launch in early March! Help amplify the voices of the 99%. Let us know what you think and what kinds of stories or material you might be ready to send our way soon! In solidarity,
Michael and the Occupy.com team
